Mancini had replaced Mark Hughes just seven days earlier, but having received a warm welcome from the home crowd, was left punching the air in celebration when Petrov tapped in at the far post to open the scoring on the half hour mark.
Tevez netted an acrobatic finish to double the lead before half-time and City’s previously leaky defence held firm to give the former Inter Milan manager reason to celebrate in his Premier League curtain raiser.
