Kevin De Bruyne received a unique piece of art after the Swedish branch of Manchester City’s Official Supporters Club voted him their 2019/20 Player of the Season.

The Belgian midfielder hit top form in our previous campaign, scoring 16 goals and providing 23 assists in all competitions and it was enough to earn him the Club’s Etihad Player of the Season prize, which is awarded in association with our Official Supporters Clubs.

However, De Bruyne was also recognised individually by the Swedish branch, who presented him with their Blue Horse award.

The Blue Horse has been presented annually for the past 10 seasons and this is the second time City’s No.17 has scooped the prize, which was won by Bernardo Silva in 2018/19.

The horse is Sweden’s national symbol and is usually painted red, but artist Jonny Gudmunds carved a special sky-blue version for De Bruyne.

“I am very grateful to the Sweden branch for awarding me their Blue Horse for the second time,” said the midfielder.

“Thank you to all the members who voted for me, it is an honour to be chosen as your player of the season.

“These are difficult times and we really appreciate all of our amazing fans cheering us on. Thank you for your incredible support.”

The annual Player of the Season vote is one of many activities the Swedish branch promote in order to engage with their members, something which takes on extra significance when following City from abroad.

“It is important for us to arrange activities in Sweden, since it is hard for many of our members to go regularly to Manchester for games,” explained branch Chairman, Andreas Fahlgren.

“We arrange meetings in pubs in different places in Sweden in order to watch games and come together.”
