Gareth Taylor has been delighted with how Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has taken on the pressure of being the Club’s main striker after she helped City to a 3-0 Barclays Women’s Super League win over Spurs.

The forward’s brace handed the visitors a commanding position early in the second half, before Lauren Hemp rounded off the scoring in a convincing display at Brisbane Road.

Shaw has now found the net five times in just four WSL appearances, seeing the Jamaican sit top of the league’s scoring charts so far.

And Taylor believes the 25-year-old has built on an impressive first season at the Academy Stadium, filling the void left behind by the retiring Ellen White.

“She had a good season last year, people overlook that a bit, and she’s taken on the responsibility of being the number nine for this Club,” the City boss said.

“She’s a young player, with lots more to come I believe. She’ll score goals. She’s proven that previously and she’s proven it here.

“For Bunny, scoring goals is important for her and for any striker because you want to feel like your performances are rewarded and she’s got that at the moment.”

Assessing the performance on the whole, Taylor insisted he was proud of each individual’s display from front to back at Brisbane Road.

Indeed, while Shaw and Hemp will take the plaudits for their goalscoring contributions, the boss explained that the clinical nature of our victory was a result of the collective over the individual.

He added: “We expect all our top end players to contribute and produce for the team. I’d love to play in this team because you’ll get goals and opportunities.

“[But] I think it’s everyone contributing, that’s the main one and you can see the way we want to dominate games, build and keep possession.

“There were some really good spells of that today and that involves the whole team, from Ellie through to the players up top.”
